Pulmonary function testing includes screening assessments performed to determine patients’ lung function and test the effectiveness of bronchodilators used in breathing treatments, test a patient’s lungs prior to surgery, or identify patients who may have asthma or chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD).

 Complex testing including body plethysmography and diffusion capacity looks for abnormalities of airflow and allows for further identification and calculation of lung disease. These results are obtained by receiving more information from the evaluation of lung volumes and gas exchange that occurs within the lungs during breathing efforts.

Diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases at Dr. Lawyer

In order to make the correct diagnosis and correctly prescribe therapy for lung diseases, the doctor must conduct a number of special studies of the respiratory organs. A single analysis of complaints is not enough, because often the same symptoms are characteristic of different diseases.

 Among the most common pathologies of the respiratory system can be identified:

– pneumonia;

– lungs’ cancer;

– COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease);

– tuberculosis;

– asthma;

– bronchitis.

To make an accurate diagnosis, Dr. Lawyer uses the most effective methods:

Fluoroscopy. This is the most common method for examining the lungs, allowing you to see a change in the structure of the lung tissue, find foci of compaction or hollow spaces, to detect the presence of fluid or air in the pleural cavity.

Radiography is a very accurate and informative method for diagnosing lungs, allowing you to see even the smallest changes in time. With its help, abnormalities in the development of the lungs, the consequences of injuries, pneumonia of various origins, the presence of tumors and parasites, as well as tuberculosis are revealed.

Digital fluorography is used to determine the presence of pathologies in the lungs and armors.

Bronchography. This variant of radiography is performed under local anesthesia and is used to diagnose the condition of the bronchi.

Asthma treatment

Most asthma treatments include the use of short and long-term medications as well as some environmental monitoring and modifications. As with all types of medical treatments, not all patients will respond in the same way to each type of environment or possible problem. The asthma patient can achieve a full life and experience all that they can, despite the fact that they suffer from a debilitating and non-curable disease. Asthma can really take a toll on a patient. Asthma is the condition of inflammation and constriction of airways in the bronchial tubes and respiratory system. With recent discoveries underway, many patients have found that herbs have found their way into a possible treatment plan for people with asthma. There is a wide variety of asthma treatment methods on the market today; the first one Dr. Carl Lawyer uses in his practice is called the Asthma Control Test. This is a method that determines the severity of your asthmatic condition. Once the evaluation is performed, the results will allow to work towards a resolution on proper asthma treatment.

“I find it personally and professionally rewarding to be able to help people overcome serious healthcare problems. Over the years, I’ve helped thousands of people breathe easier, sleep better, and get healthier.

Pulmonary, sleep and critical care medicine are rapidly evolving fields where new innovations are constantly being introduced. To keep current, I take well above the required levels of continuing education in these medical specialty fields.

But as important as both training and experience are in the specialist you choose, the manner in which they deliver your care is of equal importance. I personalize my care by creating treatment plans that are unique for each individual. I use a scientific, evidence-based approach so my patients have options. And I take the time to educate you not only about your disorder but also what it means in the context of your day-to-day life.”  Dr. Carl Lawyer
